I spent the evening with my Daughter and some friends watching Shrek the 3rd.What a POS.This was by far the most disappointing Shrek movie to date. The plot of this movie (if you can call it that) was Fiona's father the king dies. Shrek is going to become king but "He's an ogre!" and doesn't want the job. So they embark on a quest to find Arthur (Artie) the next in line. The quest takes all of 5 min when Shrek magically shows up in the land of High School Musical. It takes them around 60 seconds to find Artie and then they are off to go home. They crash the boat, find Merlin and then get teleported back to Far Far Away. Then they triumph in the big battle against Prince Charming and they return to Shrek's grotto. All the while Artie becomes king like and is redeemed. This was one cliche after another.
Here's what was wrong ----
It wasn't funny. I think I laughed 2 times the whole movie.
The commercials allude to Shrek having children: He does and they show up for 3 min at the end. The children could have been born at the beginning of the movie and we might have had a more fun flick.
The animation was too good: Yes they spent some serious bux on new animation software that made Shrek, Fiona and the crew very lifelike. People this is a movie about characters. This is a concept Pixar gets. I think Dreamworks has forgotton all about characters. I compare some of the "acting" in this movie to Mark Hamill in the original Star Wars. (you know Toshi station and power converters right?!?)
The switch between donkey and puss in boots was OK but was also held until the end.
The music selection. The other movies did a much better job in this department. The music selection in this flick was lacking at best. I think the best way to describe the music is this: the music was too live action for an animated film.
Now I know Dreamworks is gonna clean up on this one. But if I can save you the 10.00 price of a ticket thats cool here...
